Unique Opportunity for Professional Advisors

Filed under: Uncategorized — lalyork @ 11:34 pm

The York College Planned Giving Council is sponsoring a presentation by John “Buck” Chapoton on May 26, 2011 from 1:00p.m. to 2:00p.m. in the Humanities Center on the main campus of York College. Mr. Chapoton is a partner of Brown Advisory and heads its Washington, D.C. office.  He is a nationally recognized tax expert and served as Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Tax Policy under President Reagan.  His experience in tax issues has prepared him well for providing valuable strategic advice to high net-worth clients who face complex decisions with regard to structuring and managing their assets.

Mr. Chapoton’s remarks will focus on estate planning techniques and how professional advisors and clients should be working through the uncertainty that the near future holds.  This discussion will most likely include a “forecast” of what the tax-landscape will look like two years from now, and the College is excited to recruit a person who is well-connected in the nation’s capitol to provide an inside view on where legislation could be headed.

York College and its Planned Giving Council are sponsoring this event as a free service to the professional community.  Please email Mark Rank, Senior Director of Principal and Planned Giving (mrank@ycp.edu), if you would like to attend.  RSVP by May 7, 2011.

Are You Our Nonprofit Partner?

Filed under: Uncategorized — lalyork @ 11:50 pm

LEAVE A LEGACY York County, a program of the Susquehanna Valley Planned Giving Council, encourages our community to make planned philanthropy a priority.  We believe that, by raising awareness of the impact of planned giving, and its potential benefits to donors, our community will respond with a greater understanding of the legacy a planned gift can create.

Recently, we updated our mission statement to better reflect our goals:

LEAVE A LEGACY York County, a partnership of civic-minded volunteers, professional advisors and nonprofit organizations, strengthens the York County community by promoting charitable giving.

We accomplish this by:

  • assisting York County nonprofit organizations to develop the capacity to promote bequests and other planned gifts;
  • encouraging York County professional advisors to include charitable giving in the estate planning process; and
  • promoting planned giving directly to the public.

Won’t you join more than 30 of York County’s non-profits, and recognize that together we can promote the value of planned and testamentary giving in ways that none of us can do alone? Your annual partnership dues help to support all of LEAVE A LEGACY’s efforts, and help to benefit all of our community’s non-profit organizations.

Please partner with us in 2011. Together, we can help donors see the power of planned giving in our community.

Thanks for your support!

SVPGC Announces Annual Meeting

Filed under: General Information — lalyork @ 9:33 pm

December 3, 2010 is the date for Susquehanna Valley Planned Giving Council’s Annual Meeting. The guest speaker is Jonathan Gudema, a New York City based attorney and former development officer who writes The Planned Giving Blog. His edgy and engaging style focuses on WHY people make planned gifts and HOW development/legal/financial professionals sometimes get in the way. While he tends to focus on the legal and tax issues that surround planned giving, he also knows what works and what doesn’t when it comes to planned giving marketing.
